The Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology

The Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology, a Key Laboratory of Kunming University of Science and Technology, was established in 2005, andthe Headis Professor Bai Jie. The main researches of he team focus on the molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases and the drug addiction. The achievements includethe role of thioredoxin in signal transduction and neurite outgrowth regulated by nerve growth factor and the roles of thioredoxin in protecting and preventing dopaminergic neuron against Parkonson disease, which suggest that thioredoxin may be a target for Parkinson disease treatment. The findings of the research on the drug addiction are that morphine andmethamphetamine induced thiordoxin signal pathways and the inducers of thioredoxin played the role in resistanding withdrawal symptom. More than 60 papers have been published, of which more than 20 are SCI, such as J Neurosci, J Biol Chem and Free Radic Biol Med, and the team was awarded the Second Prize of the Yunnan Natural Science Award in 2008. One book has been published and more than 10 patents have been applied for. Grants include three National Natural Science Foundation and more than ten provincial/department research projects.
